  5. The idea of treating cancer with chemical agents or medications has been around since the days of the ancient Greeks. Yet the practice of cancer chemo-
  6. therapy as it's known today really only
  7. began in the 1940s. Near the end of that
  8. decade, nitrogen mustard became the
  9. first drug approved to fight tumor
  10. cells. Over the next 20 years, chemo-
  11. therapy was essentially an investiga-
